MANHATTAN, Kan. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's basketball team plays at the Kansas State Wildcats at 12 p.m. Sunday at Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan.
 
The Vaqueros (1-1) fell 68-56 at South Dakota on Friday. Graduate student guard Janette Aarnio scored a career-high 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting, and freshman forward Lina Fimbo had a career-high 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Kamryn McLaurin added 15 points.
 
Kansas State (2-0) took down Southern Indiana, 61-47, Thursday. Senior guard Taryn Sides led the Wildcats with 16 points and five assists, and junior center Tzoana Tampakou had 15 points and six rebounds on 7-of-7 shooting. Senior forward Nastja Claessens added 12 points, five rebounds and three steals. Kansas State held Southern Indiana to 33.3% shooting.
 
Kansas State leads the all-time series 5-0, including a 70-45 win Nov. 18, 2022, in Manhattan. Four of the five meetings have been in Manhattan, with the other coming in Dallas in 1987.
 
Though it is still early in the year, McLaurin has made it a point to get to the free-throw line. Through two games, she accounts for 49% of free throws made by the Vaqueros. Her 23 attempts and 20 makes at the free-throw line both lead NCAA Division I. As a team, UTRGV ranks 24^th in the nation in free throws made per game with an average of 20.5.
