RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's basketball team is tipping off the first-ever #RallyTheValley Week, presented by McAllen International Airport, with a massive Southland Conference (SLC) game Thursday at 6:30 p.m. against the Lamar Cardinals at the UTRGV Fieldhouse. 

The Vaqueros (15-9, 12-3 SLC) are one of the hottest teams in the conference, sitting in second place and riding a six-game winning streak, the longest since 2016-17. Lamar (14-8, 11-4 SLC) is one game back in third place and won the first-round game between these teams. Thursday's contest could play a big role in determining seeding for the SLC Basketball Championship, which UTRGV has secured its spot in already with seven regular season games remaining on the schedule. The top two seeds in the tournament will receive a double bye, while the third and fourth seeds will receive a single bye. 

In addition to the women's basketball game against Lamar, the inaugural #RallyTheValley Week, presented by McAllen International Airport, runs from Feb. 12-17 and includes baseball's season-opening three-game series against Kansas Feb. 13-15, a baseball game against Texas Tech on Feb. 17, a basketball doubleheader against Stephen F. Austin on Feb. 14, a men's basketball game on Feb. 16 against Lamar. 
 
Fans attending the games will receive #RallyTheValley Week passports that they can get stamped at each game to earn prizes. Fans attending five games can show their passport to receive a clear UTRGV tote bag. Fans attending six games can show their passport to receive a UTRGV t-shirt. Fans attending seven games can show their passport to receive a UTRGV water bottle. Fans attending all eight games can show their passport to receive a UTRGV hoodie. Fans will get their prizes at the same location and at the same time as receiving their fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth stamps.
 
Additionally, McAllen International Airport, the presenting sponsor of #RallyTheValley Week, will randomly select one lucky fan who attends all eight games to win two roundtrip tickets from McAllen to the nonstop destination of their choice.
 
Fans will have the opportunity to collect other giveaways at games from UTRGV Athletics sponsors such as Fork to Fit Kitchen, Vaquero Outfitters, BlueWave Express Car Wash, and more.
 
Fans can purchase tickets for all eight games for just $30 by getting a #RallyTheValley Week Pack at GoUTRGV.com/RallyTheValleyMiniPlan. Fans are encouraged to buy their tickets early as UTRGV Athletics is anticipating capacity crowds throughout the week.

Previously announced basketball promotions during #RallyTheValley Week, presented by McAllen International Airport, include:
 
•Breast Cancer Awareness Day at the basketball doubleheader on Feb. 14. The first 400 fans in attendance receive pink pom poms. Additionally, the first 300 current UTRGV students in attendance will receive free food.
 
•The Battle of the Colleges at the men's basketball game on Feb. 16, during which colleges compete for two trophies – one based on attendance by students, faculty, and staff of each college and one based on a free throw competition involving the deans. It's also Monday Madness, during which fans will receive glowsticks, courtesy of Vaquero Outfitters. There will also be a DJ and party lights. Additionally, the first 300 current UTRGV students in attendance will receive free food.

Fans can purchase tickets at UTRGVTickets.com. Current UTRGV students receive free general admission with their student ID but will need to claim a ticket at GoUTRGV.com/StudentTickets.
