RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's basketball team is looking to extend its winning streak to a program-record eight games Saturday as it hosts the Stephen F. Austin (SFA) Ladyjacks at 2 p.m. at the UTRGV Fieldhouse in a Southland Conference (SLC) game as part of #RallyTheValley Week, presented by McAllen International Airport.
The Vaqueros (16-9, 13-3 SLC) are one of the hottest teams in the conference, winning seven in a row and 11 of their last 12 games played in 2026. They're riding high after a resounding 75-53 victory over third-place Lamar and sit in second in the SLC standings with a two-game lead over Lamar and SFA. Securing a top two seed will give UTRGV a double bye for the SLC Basketball Championship. SFA (17-8, 11-5) has won two in a row heading into Saturday's matchup and lost to UTRGV when these teams faced off in the first round of conference play.
A men's basketball game between UTRGV and SFA will follow the women's as the inaugural #RallyTheValley Week, presented by McAllen International Airport, continues. Saturday features a tripleheader of Vaqueros action, wrapping up with a 6:30 p.m. baseball game between UTRGV and Kansas.
Fans attending the games will receive #RallyTheValley Week passports that they can get stamped at each game to earn prizes. Fans attending five games can show their passport to receive a clear UTRGV tote bag. Fans attending six games can show their passport to receive a UTRGV t-shirt. Fans attending seven games can show their passport to receive a UTRGV water bottle. Fans attending all eight games can show their passport to receive a UTRGV hoodie. Fans will get their prizes at the same location and at the same time as receiving their fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth stamps.
Additionally, McAllen International Airport, the presenting sponsor of #RallyTheValley Week, will randomly select one lucky fan who attends all eight games to win two roundtrip tickets from McAllen to the nonstop destination of their choice.
Fans will have the opportunity to collect other giveaways at games from UTRGV Athletics sponsors such as Fork to Fit Kitchen, Vaquero Outfitters, BlueWave Express Car Wash, and more.
Previously announced basketball promotions during #RallyTheValley Week, presented by McAllen International Airport, include:
•Breast Cancer Awareness Day at the basketball doubleheader on Feb. 14. The first 400 fans in attendance receive pink pom poms. Additionally, the first 300 current UTRGV students in attendance will receive free food.
•The Battle of the Colleges at the men's basketball game on Feb. 16, during which colleges compete for two trophies – one based on attendance by students, faculty, and staff of each college and one based on a free throw competition involving the deans. It's also Monday Madness, during which fans will receive glowsticks, courtesy of Vaquero Outfitters. There will also be a DJ and party lights. Additionally, the first 300 current UTRGV students in attendance will receive free food.
