JACKSON, Miss. — The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team earned their third win of the season Saturday, defeating Alcorn State (ASU) 4-0, at the Halls Ferry Tennis Center.

The Vaqueros (3-11) got on the board in doubles as junior Ivo Isqueiro and graduate student Sam Whiteheadearned their first doubles win of the season as a pair, defeating the duo of Matthew Holl and Vincent Llobell Buigues, 6-2.

Immediately after, sophomore Tsz Him Chan and junior Paolo Bonaguro secured the doubles point for the Vaqueros by defeating ASU's Tomas Grime and Jorge Prats Navarrete, 6-3.
 
In singles play, Bonaguro delivered a strong performance by going wire-to-wire and earned a straight-sets win. He claimed the first singles point for UTRGV by defeating Navarrete, 6-0, 6-1. On court four, junior Will Roberts earned a straight-sets win. He overcame a 1-0 deficit in the first set to win, 6-2. Roberts dominated the second set against Fabian Juarez, 6-0, to extend the UTRGV lead to 3-0. 

Isqueiro sealed the team victory on court three with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Holl.

Three singles matches went unfinished after the team result was decided. Chan, Whitehead and junior Santiago Serrano all won their first sets on the fifth, second and first courts, respectively. 

The Vaqueros will play their next three in Maryland starting with a 12 p.m. match March 7 at Mount St. Mary's. Fans can follow along via live stats.
