RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the All-Academic awards for the 2026 men's and women's track & field seasons Monday, recognizing both programs representing The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) as All-Academic Teams.
Additionally, UTRGV had five men and four women named All-Academic Athletes:
Alejandro Arellano, Aaron Cooper, Jefferson Jean, Daniel Siaffa and
Matic Vidmar represent the men's team and
Efe Latham, Ashley Lingueno, Kaliyah Poston and
Treasure Vallerie represent the women's.
To reach All-Academic Team status, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. Student-athletes must meet athletic and academic criteria to reach All-Academic status. In competition, a student-athlete must have finished the indoor season ranked in the top 96 in an individual event or top 48 with a relay or participated in either the NCAA West or East preliminary championship competition or finished the outdoor season ranked in the top 48 individually or 24 as a relay on the regional lists. Academically, student-athletes must have a 3.25 cumulative GPA or higher and have completed at least two semesters at the nominating institution.
Jean, Siaffa, Vidmar, Latham, Lingueno, Poston and Vallerie were part of a program-best 11 Vaqueros to qualify for the NCAA West First Round during the outdoor season. Cooper, Siaffa, Latham and Poston also earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District selections. Latham, Poston and Lingueno made the Southland Conference Women's Track & Field All-Academic Team and Siaffa, Jean and Arellano were named to the SLC Men's All-Academic Team.
