RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The Southland Conference (SLC) announced weekly volleyball awards Monday and The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) freshman setter
Lana Rnjak earned her second SLC Setter of the Week award.
Rnjak averaged 9.67 assists per set with 58 assists in two matches as UTRGV opened conference play with a pair of sweeps at the UTRGV Fieldhouse. She had 31 assists with four kills, four digs and one block in a 3-0 win over McNeese on Sept. 23. The Vaqueros hit .322 in the match, and
Martina Franco was the lone player in double figures with 12 kills.
Rnjak followed with 27 assists, four kills, 12 digs and one block in a 3-0 win over Nicholls on Sept. 26. UTRGV hit .208 in the match, with
Ema Petkovic collecting 13 kills. For the week, Rnjak also added two service aces. She ranks third in the SLC in assists per set at 8.70.
The Vaqueros' three-match homestand continues Thursday with a School Day, presented by Whataburger, conference match against UIW at 12 p.m. at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.
