The history of The University of Texas at Brownsville (UTB) athletics goes back to 2006, when it started competing at the NAIA level as the Scorpions through a partnership with Texas Southmost College (TSC). Prior to 2006, Scorpion athletics competed at the junior college level as TSC.
UTB/TSC competed as the Scorpions through the spring of 2012. During the 2012-13 academic year, UTB/TSC competed as one entity for the final time without a nickname. In 2013-14 and 2014-15, UTB competed as the Ocelots.
