Student-athletes and athletics staff may NOT: Engaging in sports wagering can directly or indirectly result in:
  • Bet on any sport at any level, college nor professional
  • Bet on your own sport, team, opponents, or athletes
  • Share inside or non-public information (injuries, lineups, academics, etc.)
  • Participate in fantasy sports/March Madness brackets for money.
  • Influence the outcomes of a contest for wagering purposes.
  • Risk of losing NCAA eligibility
  • Potential financial and legal consequences
  • Team penalties and program-level impacts
  • Threats to mental health and well-being
VIOLATIONS can result in loss of eligibility, suspension, or permanent ineligibility

Red Flags

Student-athletes and athletics staff should be aware of and report the following red flags:
  • Someone asking about injuries or lineups
  • Teammates placing bets
  • Requests for inside information
  • Odd social media messages

Green Flags

Safe practices for student-athletes and athletics staff to ensure compliance:
  • Keep college sports off betting apps
  • Guard any and all team information
  • Ask compliance before acting
