Preparing Vaqueros for Life Beyond the Game
The UTRGV Student-Athlete Success Program is dedicated to supporting the holistic development of Vaqueros student-athletes. The program combines educational opportunities, community engagement, and resources to prepare student-athletes for life during and after college.
Life Skills Programming
Life Skills sessions are held twice per semester and feature interactive, in-person programming with guest speakers, workshops, and real-life conversations for UTRGV student-athletes. Life Skills sessions can cover various topics, including but not limited to:
- Financial Literacy
- Mental Health
- Career Development
- Personal Growth
- Nutrition and Wellness
Community Service
Community engagement opportunities encourage student-athletes to interact with the local community, building leadership skills and fostering a sense of social responsibility. Opportunities include, but are not limited to:
- Volunteering at local events
- Volunteering with non-profits
- Participating in university initiatives
- Mentoring opportunities
Student-Athlete Events
Highlights key student-athlete experiences, giving students the chance to build community, celebrate achievements, connect with peers and staff, and take part in networking and team-building opportunities. Student-athlete events can include, but are not limited to:
- Scheduled events and orientation programming
- Build community, team bonding, and networking
- End of year student-athlete awards banquet
