New UTRGV Student-Athlete Undergraduate Checklist

  1. Submit Apply Texas application

All Incoming Students

  1. Submit an Admission Application at www.applytexas.org. A $50 application fee will apply for international students. International applicants will pay the fee once the application has been submitted through the online portal.
  2. While test scores are not required for an admission decision, test scores are required for Tuition Advantage and are highly encouraged for scholarships, College of Engineering admissions, Biomedial Program admissions, etc. Submit your ACT or SAT test scores directly from the testing agency. To submit test scores to UTRGV, please use the following codes: ACT 6991 and SAT 6568.
  3. Submit your Texas Success Initiative (TSI) scores. Note: TSI is mandatory to register for classes and can be taken upon arrival to campus. FOr students that live close to the area, you may take the TSI at UTRGV Testing Centers. For those outside of the Rio Grande Valley, contact your Student-Athlete Academic Advisor to register for the exam.

All Incoming International Students

  1. These steps are in addition to the steps slisted in the All Incoming Students section.
  2. Have your official transcripts evaluated and the transcript evaluation report completed by either Foreign Credential Services of America (FCSA Application), World Education Services (WES), The Evaluation Company, or International Education Evaluation (IEE). *Students who have not yet graduated from high school must have their fifth semester transcript evaluated by one of the agencies mentioned above. After graduation, students must submit an official high school transcript to the same agency for a final evaluation.
  3. Complete an English Proficiency Exam. The minimum scores for the tests are as follows: TOEFL 61 (Internet-based, IBT Home, and IBT MyBest scores), TOEFL Essentials 6.5, IELTS 6, Duolingo 95, and Pearson PTE Academic 45.
  4. Provide a copy of your valid passport (it must be valid no less than 6 months prior to the first day of class.)
  5. Submit an Affidavit of Financial Support form (CFR) that will be provided by the International Admissions Office.
  6. Submit a bank statement showing sufficient financial support for one year of study and living. See tables for required amounts.
  7. if applicable, please submit your Mexican Tuition Waiver.

Admissions & Scholarship Deadlines

If you are an international student, please pay close attention to deadlines. Since processing applications from international students takes more time, UTRGV has different application deadlines for international applicants. All required documents and test scores must be submitted no later than:
  • February 1 for Fall admission
  • November 1 for Spring admission
  • April 1 for Summer I admission
  • May 1 for Summer II admission
  • International Applicant Deadline: June 1 for Fall; October 15 for Spring
  • First Day of Classes: August 26, 2026
  • FASFA priority deadline: March 15
  • TASFA state application deadline: March 15
UTRGV Entering Freshman scholarship application deadline: December 1 (must be admitted in order to apply HERE). Applications open first week of October.

Send copies of ALL Official High School Transcripts to UTRGV

  • OPTION 1 – Have your official transcript emailed directly from your high school records administrator to reg_athletic@utrgv.edu or application@utrgv.edu.
  • OPTION 2 – Send them Electronically to UTRGV: Code – 003599.
  • OPTION 3 – Upload directly to www.enrollment.utrgv.edu/documentcentral.
  • OPTION 4 – Mail them to:

Uniform International Admission Policy

If you attended a high school in a foreign country, you must send your transcript to get evaluated by Foreign Credentials Service of America (FCSA), World Education Services (WES), International Education Evaluation (IEE), or The Evaluation Company. FCSA, WES, IEE, and The Evaluation Company are the only companies accepted by UTRGV.

Submit Official Test Scores

  • Complete the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

Submit Proof of Meningitis Vaccination (if 21 years old or younger)

Meningitis Vaccination cannot be older than five years at the time the student first begins classes. Submit proof of vaccination to application@utrgv.edu and cc: your advisor or compliance

You will NOT be able to register for classes until you've submitted proof of your Meningitis Vaccine!

Campus Housing

ALL FIRST YEAR (FRESHMEN) STUDENT-ATHLETES ARE REQUIRED TO LIVE ON-CAMPUS. EXCEPTIONS MUST BE APPROVED BY HOUSING AND ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT.
If you are planning to live on campus, make sure you follow the appropriate steps and submit necessary deposits before the deadline:
  • Visit my.utrgv.edu and log in with your UTRGV credentials.
  • Click on the Student Housing Icon which will reroute you to the StarRez Housing Portal
  • Click on the Application Link to complete Part 1 and select the term Fall 2026 - Spring 2027 Term (basketball and volleyball student-athletes living on-campus should select the annual contract.
  • The $100 refundable deposit and $50 application fee will be charged to your student account (ASSIST).
  • Wait for an email from home@utrgv.edu to complete Part 2. Once both parts are submitted, room assignments and further instructions will be sent in the Spring.

New Student Orientation & Round Up

  • All UTRGV students are required to attend New Student Orientation (NSO). International Students must attend International Student Orientation in person.
  • Additionally, to best serve you, you will meet with your student-athlete academic advisor. Your assigned advisor will ask you questions about your major, your ultimate career goals, and what you hope to gain from your college experience. The more you share with your advisor, the better they can serve you and make sure that your course schedule is both relevant to your goals and manageable during your first year. Your advisor is your advocate and will serve as your guide for you academic road map. Be prepared to discuss these topics with them freely and openly
    • Participate in Phone / Zoom / Facetime Advising with your student-athlete academic advisor
    • Plan to attend Orientation IN-Person
    • Plan to attend UTRGV Round Up
    • Actively participate in Best Week Ever activities the first week of classes
    • Plan to attend the Mandatory Student-Athlete Orientation Session
      • The items listed above are REQUIREMENTS and are critical to your success at UTRGV.

Submit Copies of your Health Insurance Card

  1. All student-athletes are required to carry primary insurance coverage while they are a member of one or more UTRGV Department of Intercollegiate Athletic teams.
  2. All international student-athletes are automatically enrolled in the UTRGV student health plan. Enrollment is a condition of your attendance at a UT System school.
  3. Please submit a copy of your primary insurance card to the athletic training staff prior to your arrival. You need to send a copy of the front and back of your insurance card.
  4. Failure to maintain appropriate primary insurance coverage will result in immediate removal from all team activities.

Financial Aid Information (Domestic Students)

  1. Complete the Federal Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) and submit to UTRGV using the school code 003599. For more information, please refer to: https://www.utrgv.edu/undergraduate-admissions/.
  2. You will receive a financial aid notification to accept your financial aid package if awarded.
