The UTRGV baseball team hired Shawn Redd on August 6, 2015.
During his first season with the team, Redd was in charge of the outfield defense, helping the unit to post a collective .972 fielding percentage, including nine outfield assists.
Redd also coached first base and assisted with all of the hitters. Off the field, Redd served as camp director and team travel coordinator.
Redd spent the 2015 season as the Director of Baseball Operations at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock.
Prior to UALR, Redd spent four years at TCU as the Facilities Manager and Head of Baseball Grounds. His responsibilities included assisting with the team’s catchers and TCU Baseball Camp operations
Redd also worked directly with members of TCU’s athletic administration, assisting with facilities management and the day-to-day operations of TCU athletics.
While working at TCU, Redd was also the head coach for the Dallas Patriots, a youth baseball organization for players ages 6-18. Redd served as the hitting and defense instructor, working personally with all hitters and catchers. Redd ran practices and all batting cage and live-hitting work. Additionally, he actively recruited future players.
In addition to his work for TCU and the Dallas Patriots, Redd also served as a catcher and hitting coach at the Batters Cave Training Academy. Redd provided instruction and oversaw catching programs for all players ages 8-21. While Redd’s specialties include mental preparation, defense and game management, he also assisted in hitting drills with other private instructors.
Redd earned his bachelor’s degree in communication from TCU in 2010. He then completed his master’s in communication research studies at TCU in 2012.
