Byron Peak, who was a graduate assistant with the Oklahoma men’s basketball team the previous two seasons, joined UTRGV as a special assistant to the head coach on May 24, 2018.
Peak’s primary responsibilities with Oklahoma included creating video edits of player personnel and plays of opposing teams, assisting with budget oversight and planning, creating recruiting materials, helping to find future recruits and transfers, assisting with individual and group player workouts, setting up official and unofficial visits, assisting with social media, and facilitating community engagement.
Prior to his time as a graduate assistant, Peak serve as an undergraduate student manager for three years, earning a promotion to head manager in 2015-16. Peak began his collegiate career as a men’s basketball student-athlete at Kansas Wesleyan in 2012-13, where he earned President’s High Honor Roll distinction.
Peak has additional basketball experience assisting with camps run by the Oklahoma City Thunder (2017), Buddy Hield (2017), Oklahoma (2013-18), Nebraska (2015), Georgia (2015) and Kentucky (2014).
Originally from Savannah, Mo., Peak graduated from Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 2016 and a Master of Adult and Higher Education in 2018.
