Diogo Mendonca Bastos joined UTRGV Men's Soccer for the 2026-27 season as a Graduate Assistant coach after playing for the Vaqueros for two seasons.
During his two seasons at UTRGV, Bastos played in 16 total matches and made five starts. As a senior, Bastos recorded single game career-highs in shots (3), shots on goal (2), shots on goal percentage (1.000), and minutes played (74). In addition, he tallied his first career assist in UTRGV's win over Texas A&M-International, marking a new career-high in assists and points (1). As a junior, Bastos played in seven matches, making his debut at No. 16 SMU.
Prior to joining UTRGV, Bastos played two seasons with Monroe College where he played in 36 total matches and made 30 starts. In his sophomore season, Bastos scored one goal on the season and took 11 shots with three shots on goal. He was named to the Academic All-Region team.
Bastos stood out as a freshman at Monroe, where he helped the Mustangs win the NJCAA DI Men's Soccer Championship, scoring two goals and talling two assists on the season. For his efforts, Bastos was named to the NJCAA Division I Men's Soccer All-American Team.
Bastos brings an international background to the program as he was born and raised in Brazil.
