Shane Venteicher joined the UTRGV Athletics Department in the spring of 2022. He was promoted to Associate Athletic Trainer in Sept. 2023, Director of Football Medicine in April 2024, and most recently, Associate Athletic Director for Sport Medicine in March 2026. Before taking over football, Venteicher oversaw men’s soccer, track & field, and cross country.
As a member of the UTRGV Athletics senior staff, Venteicher oversees the sports medicine team which includes, eight athletic trainers, a medical assistant, and over 40 student trainers and the operations of four training rooms while working directly with student-athletes and coaches. Venteicher also works directly with the UTRGV School of Medicine and UT Health RGV physicians to continue to deliver premium care to all of UTRGV’s 18 sport programs.
Venteicher spent the last two years as UTRGV’s first director of football medicine, overseeing the sports medicine for football’s inaugural season and practice year. During his time in that role, Venteicher oversaw the prevention, rehabilitation, and treatment of all football-related injuries. His duties also extended to the developing a comprehensive emergency action plan, serving as the medical liaison for the program, and collaborating with coaches to ensure safety for our student-athletes. Venteicher continues to directly oversee football sports medicine in his new role.
After originally starting as an assistant athletic trainer at UTRGV in the spring of 2022, Venteicher was promoted to associate athletic trainer overseeing men's soccer and track & field/cross country, as well as the new athletic training facility at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex in Sept. 2023. Additionally, Venteicher served as a mentor for new and student members of the sports medicine team.
Prior to joining UTRGV, Venteicher spent six years as the sports medicine director and an adjunct professor at Allen Community College, where he covered men's and women's soccer, baseball, softball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's track & field/cross country, and cheer and dance.
Venteicher earned his Master of Science in Exercise Science in 2019 from Liberty University and his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training in 2016 from Simpson College, where he played football.
