Blake Huber, who enters his second season with the program, joined UTRGV as an assistant coach on June 5, 2018.
Huber was an assistant coach at Henderson State where he helped them to a 21-9 record. His responsibilities included scouting, recruiting and running individual workouts.
In five seasons as an assistant coach, including 2014-17 under current UTRGV head coach Lane Lord at Pittsburg State, and 2013-14 at Drury, Huber’s teams have gone 129-32 (.801).
During his three seasons at Pittsburg State, Huber helped the team to an 81-19 record, three appearances in the NCAA Division II Tournament, and a berth in the 2016 Elite Eight.
Huber's duties included conducting individual workouts with guards and post players, breaking down game film, compiling scouting reports, recruiting, and assisting with in-game coaching.
Huber coached numerous all-star student-athletes, including first team All-American Mikaela Burgess, Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Defensive Player of the Year Kylie Gafford, and Pitt State’s all-time leading scorer, Lizzy Jeronimus.
During Huber’s year at Drury, the team compiled a 27-4 record and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight, losing to eventual national champion Bentley.
Huber earned his Bachelor of Science in Communication from Pitt State in 2017. He is currently working toward his master's in sport administration.
Huber is the son of Steve Huber, who spent 35 years in coaching as the head coach at Drury and Benedictine, and an assistant coach at Arkansas State, Creighton, Louisville, San Diego State, Bradley, and Central Missouri.
