Kaylena Andersen, who worked as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Fort Scott Community College in 2016-17, joined UTRGV as an assistant coach in July 2017.
Andersen assists with guard play, scouting reports, recruiting, and community engagement.
While at Fort Scott, Andersen handled scouting reports, team preparation, film sessions, strength and conditioning, and team travel while also serving as the academic coordinator and sophomore recruiting coordinator. Andersen helped to lead Fort Scott to a program record 11-0 start en route to a 17-9 record.
Andersen came to Fort Scott after two seasons as an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s basketball teams at Carl Albert State College. Her primary responsibilities included recruiting, reviewing game film, creating statistical reports, and monitoring the academic performance of her student-athletes.
Andersen began her collegiate coaching career at Ecclessia College, serving as an assistant women’s basketball coach and athletic director’s assistant from 2012-14. During that time she not only recruited, ran drills and coordinated scheduling, she also maintained attendance forms and insurance cards and assisted with the department’s records and budgets.
Andersen played collegiately at York College from 2006-08, earning All-Conference honors as a sophomore, and Arkansas-Fort Smith from 2008-10.
Originally from Bentonville, Ark., Andersen earned her Bachelor of Science in Organization Management from John Brown University in 2013.
She is currently working toward a master's degree in athletic administration.
