Scott Smith

Scott Smith joined the UTRGV women’s basketball staff on September 1, 2015 after spending the 2015 spring semester as a Student-Athlete Academic Advisor for the University of Texas-Pan American.
 
Smith has 11 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level. Prior to his time at UTPA, Smith spent two seasons as an assistant coach at West Virginia State University where he helped the Yellow Jackets to a 19-12 record in his final season, which was the second most wins in program history. He served as the recruiting coordinator while also assisting with scouting, scheduling, travel planning and post-season workouts and was in charge of guard development during practices.
 
From 2010-12, Smith was an assistant coach at Stonehill College where he guided the SkyHawks to 30 wins during his two seasons there. Prior to his stint at Stonehill College, Smith spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Merrimack College and three seasons as an assistant coach at Guilford College.
 
Additionally, Smith spent six years as a head coach at the high school level where he led the girl’s team at Holy Cross High School to two regional championships.
 
Smith graduated from Shippensburg University in 1995 with a Bachelor’s Degree in education and then earned his Master’s Degree in kinesiology from Indiana University in 1997.
 
Smith resides in McAllen, Texas.
