Edinburg North alum Victoria Pena joined UTRGV women's basketball as the coordinator for basketball operations in June of 2018.
Pena, who enters her sixth season with the program, coordinates the team travel and meals while helping to keep practices efficient. Pena also plays a big part in helping maintain the program’s excellence in the classroom.
Pena spent 2017-18 season at Hill College and helped Hill to an 18-13 record.
She went on to play at Stephen F. Austin from 2012-16, appearing in 54 games while helping the team to the 2014 and 2015 Southland Conference Championships. As a senior, Pena was honored with the Murray Shaw Academic Award, which recognizes the student-athlete with the highest grade point average in each sport.
This is Pena’s second stint at UTRGV after assisting in the compliance department during the spring of 2017.
Prior to her first stint with UTRGV, Pena served as a volunteer assistant coach for Edinburg North’s varsity girls’ basketball team while working as the social media coordinator for the Rio Grande Valley Sports Hall of Fame.
Pena earned her Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Stephen F. Austin in 2016.
She then gained experience as a paralegal, working for Thomas J. Henry Injury Attorneys in San Antonio for nine months immediately following graduation.
