Ashley Elwell joined the department as an assistant athletic trainer on Feb. 1, 2015 after spending the previous year as an athletic trainer and physician extender at Heartland Orthopedics, a service of Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, Minn.

Elwell spent the previous four years as an athletic trainer at The Orthopedic & Fracture Clinic in Mankato, Minn.

At both stops, Elwell worked primarily with high school student-athletes participating in soccer, volleyball, basketball, tennis, cross country, track & field, baseball, softball, football, hockey, swimming, wrestling, gymnastics and skiing.

She was also a clinical preceptor for Mankato West High School in 2013-14, mentoring and teaching current athletic training students from Minnesota State Mankato’s athletic training program.

Elwell is board certified as an athletic trainer and has an American Red Cross certification in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer & the Health Care Provider. She is a member of the National, Great Lakes and Minnesota Athletic Training Associations.

Elwell earned her Bachelor of Athletic Training from Minnesota State Mankato in 2010 and is currently working towards her Master of Public Health from Concordia University in Nebraska.
