The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Friday, Aug. 21st the addition of Carter Lyles as Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance.
Lyles spent the last two years as the Pitching Coach at the University of Charleston. In this role, he coordinated daily operational activities for the baseball program, including scheduling, communication and organizational management. He also assists with recruiting logistics, official visit coordination, travel planning and student-athlete support.
Lyles' responsibilities have also included the use of analytics systems, reporting tools and performance-tracking technology, along with assisting in camps, budgeting support, staffing coordination and event execution.
In addition to his coaching experience, Lyles has served as a graduate assistant in Marshall University's Learning Resource Center. In that role, he managed scheduling systems, project coordination and communication workflows while collaborating with faculty, staff and students to support academic and operational efficiency. He also gained experience in confidential record management, administrative organization and problem-solving.
Lyles has also gained exposure to NCAA DI athletics administration through experiences with programs at Virginia, North Carolina, James Madison, Radford, and George Mason.
Prior to beginning his coaching and administrative career, Lyles competed as an NCAA Division I baseball student-athlete at Marshall from 2021-24 after spending two seasons at West Virginia from 2019-21. His experience as a student-athlete provided him with firsthand knowledge of NCAA regulations, student-athlete eligibility standards, compliance structures and the organizational demands of Division I athletics.
Lyles earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sports Management from Marshall University and minored in General Business. He is currently pursuing his Master of Business Administration.
