Julie Vasquez joined UTRGV Athletics as the Director of Athletics Marketing and Digital Media on Jan. 3, 2023 after serving for four years as the digital media manager for Golden Grape Entertainment, serving Bert Ogden Arena, HEB Park, the RGV Vipers and the RGV FC Toros.
Vasquez has over six years of experience as a digital media manager with knowledge of the sports, entertainment, music and media industries. While at Golden Grape, she managed social media accounts, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube and TikTok, for Bert Ogden Arena and HEB Park and the professional teams housed at those venues, creating, editing and monitoring content and interactions.
Vasquez was named the NBA G League Overall Digital Team MVP in 2021. She created and presented two marketing campaigns to all 30 NBA G League marketing teams and produced consistently strong content with her team. That same year, an interview she did for the RGV Vipers YouTube channel was recognized on ESPN+. With Golden Grape, Vasquez produced and directed digital shows on YouTube known as BOA Insider, HEB Park All-Access and Vipers 360. She also implemented weekly social media giveaways to drive fan engagement.
Additionally, Vasquez was the operations and marketing manager for 9Round Kickboxing for seven years. She increased revenue through her initiatives with marketing and advertising campaigns, networking, customer appreciation, content creation, and by mentoring trainers on sales techniques. Vasquez spent one year as the senior account manager/digital sales manager for User Friendly Media prior to moving into the sports industry.
In her new role, Vasquez hopes to grow UTRGV’s reach as she provides social guidance and structure and brings her knack for marketing campaigns to the Vaqueros. She will oversee the digital aspects of UTRGV Athletics’ marketing efforts by coordinating and overseeing the creative team to develop engaging content, continuing the department’s licensing efforts and contributing to managing social media accounts for the athletic department and its 16 teams. Vasquez will play a vital role in developing a great presence with the campus community and beyond.
A Rio Grande Valley native and graduate of Mission High School, Vasquez received a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications and Public Relations/Advertising from UTRGV in December 2016. While attending UTRGV, she interned with UTRGV Athletics, was the treasurer for the AD Club, and a member of the American Advertising Federation. She was a member of the RGV’s National Hispanic Professional Organization, the McAllen Chamber of Commerce and the McAllen Mayor’s Wellness Council Committee.
