Rio Grande Valley-native and Sharyland alum Luis Trevino joined UTRGV baseball to head up analytics for the 2023 season.
Trevino was drafted in the 40th round of the 2019 MLB First-Year Player Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays. After the draft, Trevino spent time with the Hudson Valley Renegades (Short-Season A), Charleston RiverDogs (Single-A), Bowling Green Hot Rods (High-A), and Durham Bulls (Triple A). In his professional career, Trevino hit .274 with a .361 on-base percentage and a .402 slugging percentage. He amassed 66 hits, 34 RBI, 20 doubles, and two home runs.
Collegiately, Trevino spent three years at Abilene Christian from 2017 to 2019. In 2019, Trevino earned Southland Conference Player of the Year honors by leading the conference in batting average at .408 and RBI with 63. He was one home run (15) shy of the triple crown. Nationally, Trevino finished ninth in batting average and slugging percentage (.743), 14th in on-base percentage (.504), and 17th in RBI per game (1.21).
In 2017, Trevino hit .366 with four home runs and 43 RBI. He had two separate 13-game hitting streaks along with 22 multi-hit performances in 55 games. Trevino earned a spot on the All-Southland Conference Third Team.
Prior to his time at ACU, Trevino played two seasons at Navarro College. In 2016, Trevino hit .409 with a .497 on-base percentage and a .630 slugging percentage in 35 games. He led his team in hits with 52. Navarro went 39-16 record, including a 25-5 finish in conference play.
In 2015 season, Trevino led his team in five categories including, batting average (.417), on-base percentage (.467), slugging percentage (.583), hits (50), and home runs (3). Navarro finished 32-17, including 25-5 finish in conference play.
