EDINBURG - All the fancy statistics--Midwest leaders and Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week--won't help the Univerisity of Texas-Pan American soccer team against St. Mary's University at 4 p.m. here Sunday.
What does matter is how well the Broncs respond to the traditionally tough Rattlers from San Antonio. Admission is free to the rematch at UT Pan American, north of the Cox Tennis Stadium.
Mohsen Husain earned Sun Belt Player of the Week honors partly because he booted the goal that beat St. Mary's, 1-0, in San Antonio Oct. 2.
The Broncs risk their 9-1 record, the Sun Belt's best, in their final scheduled home game against collegiate competition. They may play a team from Mexico here Oct. 19.
Goalie
Fredy Sanguinetti of the Broncs leads the powerful Midwest Region of NCAA Division I by having managed six shutouts already. His 76 saves also rank No. 1, just three ahead of Schott Fusco of Bradley.
Overall, Sanguinetti ranks No. 2 among 15 top goalies who are listed, by virtue of his 0.50 goals-against average. Kevin Cronk of Tulsa is No. 1 at 0.32.
Ronny Cabrera, another Broncs, is tied for fourth in assists with five--half as many as leader Mike Rigas of Illinois-Chicago. Husain is tied for fourth with seven goals, a good six behind Brian Kamier of Creighton.
Husain and Cabrera are tied for 10th in scoring and
Jesus Tavarez of the Broncs is tied for 12th.
