TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's soccer program is set for a Sunday night showcase with the University of South Florida (USF) Bulls at Corbett Stadium.

The Vaqueros are making their second trip to Florida in the young season. The first came on Aug. 20 as they traveled to West Florida (UWF) Argonauts for their season-opener.
 
The Vaqueros rallied twice during the season-opener to defeat the Argonauts, 3-2. Scoring twice in the final 30 minutes, UTRGV escaped Pensacola, Fla., with the victory.
 
UTRGV returned home for a battle with the Stetson Hatters. The Hatters broke the scoreless tie in the 81^st minute, but in the 88^th minute, sophomore Floridian Sammy Jadid found a loose ball just outside the box and nailed a left-footed shot that found the bottom-right corner of the net to force the match to a 1-1 draw.
 
Each goal for UTRGV was scored by a different Vaquero as Jadid, sophomore Emmanuel Gore Bi, senior Malang Mandiang, and senior captain Mouhamed Pouye all found the back of the net. Alongside those goals, Jadid and Pouye were also credited with assists.
 
The Vaqueros ended opening week with a 1-0-1 record and currently lead the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) in winning percentage (.750). For his efforts, Jadid was named a notable performer by the OVC.
 
This is UTRGV's first season in the OVC, joining Eastern Illinois, Houston Christian University, Lindenwood, SIUE, Southern Indiana, UIW, and Western Illinois, after spending the 2025 season as an NCAA DI Independent.

This is the first meeting between the Bulls and the Vaqueros. This is the Bulls' first season under the direction of head coach George Kiefer.
 
The Bulls are 1-3 to open the 2026 campaign after defeating UWF 3-1 at home on Aug. 23. However, The Bulls are currently riding a two-match skid, falling to both Central Florida and North Florida.
 
Similar to UTRGV, the Bulls have featured a balanced attack with four different goal scorers this season.
