UTPA Soccer Chases Elusive First Victory Against Jacksonville

MOBILE, Ala. - Still searching for their elusive first victory of a frustrating soccer season, the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs battle Jacksonville of Florida at noon Monday.

This will end UTPA's three-game visit to the Sun Belt Conference Mini-Tournament. This is a warm-up for the real SBC Championship in Little Rock Nov. 4-6.

Western Kentucky handed the unlucky UTPA Broncs their ninth straight defeat in a bitterly fought battle Saturday night, 3-1. 

WKU's Hilltoppers scored on Tom Morgan's goal in the 13th minute. Mario Ribera of UTPA equalized by scoring on a free kick in the 39th minute. It stayed 1-1 at halftime.

Alois Bunjira of WKU then scored twice, breaking the tie with a penalty kick in the 58th minute when Ribera was ejected with a red-card foul. Bunjira scored the clincher in the 72nd minute.

Tony Hesler of WKU was red-carded in the 74th minute. WKU made 21 total fouls, UTPA 18. Each side drew three yellow cards plus one red.

WKU improved to 6-7 with its second straight win on a neutral field in Mobile. WKU bumps into host South Alabama Monday.
