SHREVEPORT - Sophomore Scott Yerby scored four goals Sunday to rally Centenary College to a wild, 5-3 soccer victory over the Texas-Pan American Broncs.
Centenary's Gents improved their record to 7-8 while UTPA remained winless at 0-11.
Yerby, a midfielder from Catholic High in Baton Rouge, gave CC a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute when he beat UTPA goalkeeper
Michael Lozano to the near post.
Alector Cardenas of UTPA tied it, 1-1, on an assist from his brother Rafael. Then Rey Cisneros put the Broncs ahead, 2-1, in the 56th minute on an unassisted goal that broke the halftime tie.
Yerby struck again in the 58th minute to tie it, 2-2. Mike Santos again gave UTPA the lead, 3-2, in the 59th minute. But Yerby scored in the 61st and 88th minutes, sandwiched around Rogerio Lima's eventually winning goal in the 69th minute.
Jorge Cavazos of UTPA drew a red-card ejection in the 88th minute. Three Broncs and five Gents drew yellow cards. Centenary committed 20 fouls to UTPA's 18. Each goalie got seven save but CC had 22 shots on goal to UTPA's 15.
