EDINBURG - Unlucky so far and losing two starters for red-card suspensions, the University of Texas-Pan American soccer Broncs embark on a three-game trip to Tulsa Thursday and Friday and Arkansas-Little Rock Saturday.
"We're having three games in three days and that's very demanding, but it will give us a very good tast of the (Sun Belt) Conference championships," said Coach Eloy Moran of UTPA.
The Broncs visit the University of Tulsa at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, then stay in Tulsa Friday at Oral Roberts University. They drive on to Arkansas-Little Rock, their first Sun Belt foe, on Saturday.
"I'm taking 20 players because I'll need 18 for our first game, and
Eric Jarvis and
Arnoldo Cardenas were ejected (in Albuquerque) with red cards so they are suspended for our next game," Moran said. "Peter Goaleck and
Jose Flores will replace them in the lineup."
The Broncs are 0-4 but lost three close games, 2-0 to both TCU and Evansville and 4-3 to Missouri-Kansas City, when some good shots struck the posts.
"We'll hit a post or two on this trip--with my fist if nothing else," said Moran, frustrated by missed chances. The Broncs lost to TCU despite holding the Southwest Conference team without a shot at goal the entire first half. UMKC scored in the final minute of each half to beat the Broncs, who scored three goals within four minutes to lead.
Moran reported no injuries. Next Bronc home appearance will be Oct. 7 against Monterrey Tech of Mexico, an international exhibition.
