South Alabama whipped Western Kentucky, 5-1, in the other opender. UTPA's Broncs (0-7) will face Western Kentucky (1-7) at 2 p.m. Saturday, after Vanderbilt plays South Alabama at 11:30 a.m.

Luis Cardenas scored UTPA's goal at 79:42 on Adrian Ausucua's assist. Simic tallied twice as JU's Dolphins outshot the Texans, 13-8.
