The University of Texas Pan American women's basketball team ended the year with a victory on the road with a 68-55 triumph over Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD, on Friday (Dec. 31).

"These are the type of games that are so important for our program to win," said head coach DeAnn Craft. "We need to be able to win games on the road, and tonight it was another step for our program in the right direction."

The Lady Broncs were led by a trio of players who reached double-digits with junior Devin Reed (Indianapolis, IN/Cowley County Community College) leading the way with a team-high 11 points along with six assists. Freshman Tynesha Pierce (Houston, TX/WestWestfield High School) continues to improve her on-court performances with every passing game as she scored 10 points while collecting five rebounds and four steals in 21 minutes of action. It was the fourth straight game that Pierce has reached double figures.

Senior Molly Schamel (Hector, NY/Yavapai College) played a pivotal role in the game as she put together a dominating performance in the paint, finishing with 10 points on 5-5 shooting and grabbing nine rebounds in 22 minutes of play.

"Molly really did a great job tonight. She was productive in every minute that she was on the court whether it was offensively or defensively. Our perimeter game was a little sloppy, but she was able to step up down low and get the job done," added Craft.

Sophomore forward MaHogany Daniel (Corpus Christi, TX/Mary Carroll High School) grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds while scoring nine points along with a pair of blocks and a single steal. The Lady Broncs tied a season-high with 50 rebounds while limiting Morgan State to 35 boards.

It was the first time in program history that the Lady Broncs have won two consecutive non-tournament road games. With the victory, UTPA improved its record to 6-7 overall while Morgan State dropped to 1-7.

The Lady Broncs will break in the New Year with a game against Oklahoma State on Sunday (Jan. 2) in Stillwater, OK.
