Title IX
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Department of Intercollegiate Athletics  (UTRGV) is committed to maintaining a learning and working environment that is free from discrimination based on sex in accordance with Title IX of the Higher Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX), which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in educational programs or activities; Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII), which prohibits sex discrimination in employment; and the Campus Sexual Violence Elimination Act (SAVE Act).
 
Gender Equity
The UTRGV Athletic Council is appointed by the UTRGV President and is charged to "discuss, review provide oversight for assuring compliance, and recommend athletic policies and procedures in accordance with the provisions outlined in the Handbook of Operating Procedures, NCAA Division I rules and regulations and Conference constitution, bylaws and rules."  The UTRGV Athletic Council generates an annual report on the "status of compliance of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and the progress of Improvement Plans," including the institution's Gender Equity Plan.

2022-23 Demographics
About one quarter of UTRGV student-athletes are from the Rio Grande Valley while more than half are from Texas. UTRGV student-athletes represent 27 countries, including the United States, with about one quarter of the student-athlete population coming from outside the country.
