The University of Texas - Pan American women's tennis team finished play at the Abilene Christian Tournament Saturday (Feb. 5) after falling short in matches against Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Northwestern State and tournament host Abilene Christian.
The Lady Broncs were unable to record a win against ACU in their first of three matches on the weekend. Senior Ana Pena (McAllen, TX/Nikki Rowe H.S.) and doubles partner Elysia Sloan (Duncanville, TX/Duncanville H.S.) dropped 8-4 in the number one spot against ACU's Lana Pavlia and Ashley Caperton. UTPA would then lose the double point and move on to singles where they struggled to find a victory and lost the match by a 9-0 margin.
UTPA would then face Northwestern State where they again dropped the doubles point and were winless in singles. Playing number one single in the match for UTPA was Silke Buksik (Waiblingen, Germany/Sailer Gymnasium) who was defeated by NWL's Anneline Zerwick, 6-3 and 6-3.
In their final match against TAMUCC, the Lady Broncs dropped the doubles point, and did not finish singles play against the Islanders.
