The Lady Broncs (3-1) scored a record-high 110 points as they dominated Schreiner University (1-1) by a score of 110-49 on Tuesday (Nov. 21) at the UTPA Fieldhouse.

UTPA opened the night on a LeKeisha Gray (Muskogee, OK/Butler C.C.) three-pointer at the 19:34 mark in the first half and never looked back as they spread the court with their up-tempo style of play. Gray's trey would be a sign of things to come as the Lady Broncs made it a double-digit lead on a Robin Garrett (Nacogdoches, TX/Nacogdoches H.S.) jumper with 11:38 to play in the first half.

UTPA would continue to add to their double-digit lead throughout the opening stanza, and would head to the intermission with a comfortable 30-point lead with the score 56-26 in twenty minutes of action.

The Lady Broncs shot an impressive 62.9 percent from the field in the first half versus the Mountaineers 45 percent while dominating the battle on the boards 24-8.

Just as in the beginning of the game, Gray knocked down a jumper on the Lady Broncs' first possession increasing the lead to 32, making the score 58-26. Gray led all Lady Bronc scorers with 16 points on 6-7 shooting from the field and 3-3 from behind the arc while only surrendering the ball twice and stealing the ball seven times, in 15 minutes of action.

"It's a testament to her, she got knocked down against Lafayette, and it was a tough evening for her. Competitors get back up and I think she served our program well by how she responded tonight," said head women's coach DeAnn Craft.

UTPA made it a 50 point game with 14:39 remaining to play on a Hadley Freeman (Shawnee, OK/Shawnee H.S.) trey. In her third game as a Lady Bronc, Freeman scored in double-digits with 10 points as she showcased her three-point shooting abilities going 2-4 from behind the arc and 4-6 from the field.

Newcomers Aleeya Grigsby (Nacogdoches, TX/Nacogdoches H.S.) and Rose Esther Jean (Missouri City, TX/Hightower H.S.) scored in double-figures on the night for the second time in their Lady Bronc careers.

Grigsby followed up her previous performance by scoring in double-digits once again as she put up 10 points on the night on 5-10 shooting while adding five rebounds, two assists and one steal, in 29 minutes.

Jean added 12 points on the night with 5-10 shooting from the field and 2-3 from the foul line while adding four steals and five assists on the night, in 21 minutes of action.

Freshman Taylor Schneider was perfect on the evening as she scored 10 points on 5-5 shooting while teammate Garrett scored a season-high 12 points on the night going a flawless 5-5 from the field and 2-4 from the charity stripe.

The Lady Broncs would end the night with a 61 point lead in the 110-49 victory. The score would break a school record for most points scored, previously at 108 against Southern Louisiana on November 6, 1993.

"I think anytime you can establish a record it's a big day, it's a celebration for the women's program and UTPA in general. That record was established 13 years ago, and that's how you want records to be broken, with a superior performance," said Craft.

UTPA only committed six turnovers in the second half of the game and out-rebounded Schreiner 43-27 on the night. The Lady Broncs shot 63.5 percent on the night to the Mountaineers 35.4 percent.

"I was thrilled with how well we handled the ball in such an up-tempo game for us, and I thought we did a great job at getting our shooters the ball against the zone," added Craft.

The Lady Broncs take to the court again on Friday (Nov. 24) as the hit the road and head to San Marcos, TX, to compete in the Texas State Tournament hosted by Texas State.
