Tennis Falls to Southeastern Louisiana

The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs and Lady Broncs dropped both of their matches by a 6-1 count against Southern Louisiana on Saturday (Feb. 23).

After collecting a conference win against Nicholls State, the Broncs dropped their overall record to 3-6 on the season after falling 6-1 to Southern Louisiana.

Ivan Avila and Andrew Irving dropped a 8-3 decision against Ondrej Krivka and Matthieu Leboucher in the top flight while Brett Bernstein and Ashwin Vijayaragavan recorded a 8-6 win against Vladimir Paunic and Darhlis in the number-two spot.

Nirvick Mohinta and Marcus Dornauf fell to Julien Roussel and Alexis Biarneix by a score of 9-7 in the number-three spot.

In singles' action, Avila dropped a 6-0, 6-4 decision to Leboucher in the top flight while Vijayaragavan suffered a hard-fought 6-7 (4), 6-4, and 10-8 loss to Paunic in the number-two spot.

Mohinta fell 1-6, 6-3, and 6-3 to Krivka in the number-three spot of the rotation while Irving dropped a 5-7, 6-0 and 6-2 decision against Roussel in the third flight.

Bernstein suffered a 6-4, 6-2 setback against Biarneix in the number-five spot while Dornauf recorded a 3-6, 7-6 (5) and 11-9 victory over Medhi Darlis in the number-six spot of the lineup.

In women tennis action, the Lady Broncs dropped their overall record to 7-5 on the season.

Giana Oliveira and Julia Cirne-Lima suffered a 8-5 decision to Breda Kovac and Nina Knavs in the top flight of doubles' action while duo Silke Buksik and Megan Bedeau recorded a hard-fought 9-8 (4) victory over Emilija Arnaudovska in the number-two spot.

Stephanie Willerding and Luisa Cantu fell 8-6 to Jana Simurkova and Bonnie Phillips in the number-three spot of the lineup.

Oliveira led things off in singles' action with a 6-1, 6-1 setback against Arnaudovska while Cirne-Lima fell by scores of 6-3, 6-3 to Iva Velkovska in the number-two spot and Willerding dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Kovac.

In the fourth flight, Bedeau suffered a 6-4, 4-6, and 13-11 loss to Simurkova while Buksik recorded a hard-fought 2-6, 6-4, and 6-4 win against Phillips and Cantu fell 3-6, 6-2, and 17-15 to Knavs in the number-six spot of the rotation.

The Broncs and Lady Broncs will be back in action on Sunday (Feb. 24) when they face Southern in Baton Rouge, LA.
