Broncs Beat Irish in 10-8 Victory

The University of Texas-Pan American baseball program came back from a 7-0 deficit going into the seventh inning to rally back to beat the Fighting Irish in a 10-8 victory Sunday afternoon at the Irish Classic.

The Broncs scored all 10 runs in the last three innings of play, scoring six in the seventh, three in the eighth and one in the last inning of play.

The Irish would start off the fifth with a homerun hit by Ross Brezovsky into right field. The Irish would finish off that inning with five more runs making the score 7-0.

The Broncs would have an answer to the Irish's six runs in the fifth.

In the top of the seventh, newcomer Joe B. Gutierrez would double to left field bringing in catcher Nick Spears. Two batters later, Roly Gonzalez would single to left field bringing in Joe B. Gutierrez and with two pitching changes later, Bonham Hough would hit a sac fly to left field bringing in Jeremy Johnson for the third run of the inning.

Roly Gonzalez would then score off a ground out to short stop by Billy Donaho. Jordan Rutenbar and Joey Mendoza would have the final two runs of the seventh inning.

In the top of the eighth, Jeremy Johnson, Roly Gonzalez and Joey Mendoza would bring in three more runs for the Broncs making the score 9-7 Broncs.

The Irish would only score once more in the bottom of the eighth with Jeremy Barnes bringing in the final run of the game.

Nick Spears would bring in the final run for the Broncs in the ninth on a double down the right field line by Jeremy Johnson.

Roly Gonzalez, Joey Mendoza and Jeremy Johnson each had five at-bats, two runs, three hits and one run-batted-in a piece for the Broncs.

AJ Pollack would have four at-bats, two runs and one hit for the Fighting Irish.

The Broncs will be back on the road for a double-header against the University of Texas at San Antonio on Tuesday (Mar. 18) with first pitch slated for 2:00 p.m. for the first game and 5:00 p.m. for the second game.
