The tandem of Rebecca Toddy and Marci Logan led the Lady Broncs to dominate over the Highlanders, 3-1, this Saturday (Oct. 31) afternoon at the Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center in Newark, NJ.

The win improves the Lady Broncs to 7-15 for the season and 4-6 in conference play, while the Highlanders drop to 15-8 for the season and 5-3 in conference play.

"This was a great win for us. We went into this match knowing what we had to do in order to be successful and the team as a whole did a great job of executing the game plan," said head volleyball coach Angela Hubbard.

UTPA started off strong with a 25-21 win in the first set of the match. The second set was a bit more of a challenge as each team dueled until the end, but it was the Highlanders who finished on top and defeated UTPA 25-22.

The Lady Broncs returned for the third set and won 25-23. A kill by Kaitlin Vasquez secured the win for UTPA taking the match into four sets.

In what looked like a repeat of the second set, the Lady Broncs and Highlanders tied the set at 20, but an attack error by NJIT, a service ace, and back-to-back kills by Noelle Mayor allowed UTPA to pull away and finish off the Highlanders with a 25-22 win and a 3-1 overall win.

Marci Logan collected her fourth double-double of the season as she posted a team-high 14 kills and 11 digs. Kaitlin Vasquez also collected a double-double with 12 kills and 18 digs along with two assists.

Senior Rebecca Toddy collected a match-high with 27 digs, while junior Rita Gonzalez posted 39 assists for a season-high.

NJIT's Renata Pandolfo recorded 15 kills for a match-high along with eight digs. Sabrina Baby was held back to 17 digs and Anna Mercado recorded 22 assists.

"Each person deserve credit for this win. Everyone stepped up and played a solid role for us tonight," Hubbard said.

The Lady Broncs return to the UTPA Fieldhouse as they host the Utah Valley Wolverines on November 6 with match-time slated for 7:00 p.m.

"We have Utah Valley and HBU left before we head into the Conference Tournamant. We have to keep focused on our game plan and take this momentum with us into the next few weeks," added Hubbard.
