Lady Broncs Drops 98-65 Road Decision to Oral Roberts University

Nov. 13, 2009

TULSA, OK--The University of Texas-Pan American Lady Broncs suffered their first loss of the season as they dropped a 98-65 decision to Oral Roberts University (ORU) in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the Mabee Center this evening (Nov 13).

The Lady Broncs had three players in double figures, led by Maria Ben Erlingsdottir (Keflavik, Iceland/Sudurnes Comprehensive College) and Rose Esther Jean (Missouri City, TX/Hightower HS) each with 11 points. The third Lady Broncs with double figures was freshman Bianca Torre (Harlingen, TX/Harlingen South HS) who added 10 points. From the field, the Lady Broncs shot 34.3% and connected on 72.2% of their free throws going 13-18 from the charity stripe.

"We didn't guard the ball well tonight. You can't expect to win a game when you turnover the ball 31 times. We have to put this game behind us and get ready for our home opener with Texas Southern on Wednesday (Nov.18)," said head coach Denny Downing.

Kevi Luper, one of four Golden Eagles in double figures, led all scorers with 25 points. Jordan Pyle added 22 points on 9-12 shooting from the field. Jaci Bigham and Janae Voelker chipped in 18 and 10 points respectively. The Golden Eagles shot 47.2% from the field and hit on 78.6% (22-28) from the free throw line.

The Lady Broncs take on Texas Southern at the UTPA Fieldhouse on Wednesday November 18, in their regular season home opener. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
