With four unfinished matches, the Broncs saw themselves with a 4-0 setback by #36 Rice this Friday (March 20) afternoon at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium in Houston, Texas.
"The guys played well, but when you face a highly ranked opponent it might make things a little difficult," said interim head coach Chris Gill. "Individually they did really well."
The only completed matches coming from the Broncs were in the number-two, -three and -six spots of the lineup. With Nirvick Mohinta heading things up in the number-two spot, #42 Christoph Muller defeated Mohinta in a quick 6-0, 6-1 set.
In the number-three spot of the rotation, Andrew Irving was defeated 6-1, 6-0 by Sam Garforth-Bles, while sophomore Marcus Dornauf was defeated 6-2, 6-3 by Christian Saravia.
In doubles play, Beau Bernstein and Nirvick Mohinta were defeated 8-3 by Isamu Tachibana and Bruno Rosa in number-two doubles. In an 8-4 loss, Marcus Dornauf and Andrew Irving were defeated by Dennis Polyakov and Christian Saravia.
The Broncs will have another chance to redeem themselves tomorrow as they face San Diego State at 9:00 a.m. at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.
"We have a really big challenge ahead of us, but this whole season has been about challenges. If there is a group of guys who can handle a challenge is our team," added Gill.
