Final Stats
The tandem of Rose Esther Jean and Rachel Hester led to the third win for the Lady Broncs (3-12) as UTPA captured a 75-37 victory over the LeTourneau Yellowjackets (3-7) this Monday (Jan. 4) afternoon at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
Rose Esther Jean scored a game-high 16 points for the Lady Broncs and tied her career-high of six steals. Jean also grabbed five boards and collected two assists. Hester scored 14 points while collecting three steals and two assists.
UTPA never allowed the Yellowjackets to take a lead, but LeTourneau came as close as two on two occasions during the first half.
Senior Aleeya Grigsby was one point shy of recording her second double-double of the season as she scored nine points and posted 11 rebounds. Grigsby also finished with one assist, block, and steal.
As a team, UTPA shot 43 percent from the field, including 23 percent from three-point range and 75 percent from the line. LeTourneau shot for 31 percent from the field, including 30 percent from beyond the arc and 67 percent from the free throw line.
LeTournea's high scorer for the evening was Sharral McGee with nine points. McGee also finished with one rebound, three assists, two blocks, and one steal.
The Lady Broncs hit the road as they travel to Corpus Christi, Texas to face the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders on January 6th for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off. UTPA then begins conference play on January 14th as they play host to NJIT.
