At number two doubles, Nina Ciric and Reetta Raty picked up where Bedeau and Cantu left off, defeating Caroline Dedering and Sarah Adams, 8-2 to clinch the doubles point.
Singles play open with two quick losses at number four and number five as Raty fell to Carrillo, 6-2, 6-1 and Sarah Burton lost to Katie Ottenbreit, 6-1, 6-2 respectively, giving the Roadrunners a 2-1 advantage.
Number one singles proved be as competitive as number one doubles with Cantu outlasting Silva, 6-7 (5-0), 6-4, 6-3, to even the score at two apiece. Ciric at number three singles quickly dispatched Dedering, 6-2, 6-2, putting the Lady Broncs ahead, 3-2.
The match was clinched for the Lady Broncs as Bedeau, at line two, defeated Kavya Menon, 6-4, 7-5. At the time the match was clinched, Andrea Savetova was ahead of Sarah Adams, 6-3, 2-6, 1-0, unfinished.
"I am really proud of our girls today. They started off playing outstanding doubles. We've been working hard on staying aggressive and making good decision and today it certainly paid off," said Head Coach Chris Taylor.
"Luisa struggled today, but I firmly believe one of the marks of a true competitor is being able to get the job done even when you're having an off day," added Taylor.
"Today was the day that everything came together for the ladies. I think what really changed the atmosphere is that we had a full lineup finally. Number two doubles came out focused and number one doubles fought a hard battle to win the doubles point," said graduate assistant Maria Klokotzky.
"Going into singles with that advantage (the double point) really set the girls on fire. They were hungrier than I have ever seen them to win the whole thing. They fought hard and got a very deserving win," added Klokotzky.
The Lady Broncs return to action on Saturday (March 20) as they travel to Thibodeaux, Louisiana, as they take on Nicholls State. Match time is slated for noon, CST.
