Lady Broncs Defeat Top-Seed Chicago State to Head to Finals

The University of Texas-Pan American women's tennis program took down top-seed Chicago State, 4-2, this Saturday (May 2) afternoon to land a berth in the inaugural Great West Conference Championship in Grand Forks, ND.

With Chicago State a player short, the Lady Broncs had a 1-0 advantage and took the doubles point on an 8-2 win at Line 2 by Nina Ciric and Reetta Raty as they defeated sisters Juan Rosalia and Juan Rosalina Tejoprayitno.

The Lady Broncs held a 1-0 advantage over Chicago State heading into singles action, once again, with Chicago State traveling with a player short. With the forfeit at Line 6, the score stood at 2-0.

Texas-Pan American dropped two quick matches at No. 3 and No. 4 singles with 6-4, 6-4 sets. Megan Bedeau lost to Juan Rosalina and Reetta Raty lost to Golda Rubina.

Nina Ciric put the Lady Broncs back into contention as she defeated Mayasari 7-6, 6-3 at Line 1. Luisa Cantu clinched the win for UTPA as she defeated Juan Rosalia in three sets (4-6, 6-3, 6-2).

The Lady Broncs will face the North Dakota Sioux on Sunday (May 2) for the championship at 12 noon at the Snookie Register Tennis Complex in Grand Forks, ND.
