This is the 13th-straight season in which the Broncs (3-7) and Islanders (3-7) played a home and home series. They had split the season series during each of the last three years. The Broncs are now 4-2 against the Islanders since Denny Downing took over as head coach.

Adanna Opara converted a three-point play to spark the Broncs on a 10-0 run, capped by a Torre jumper, to go up 14-9 with 11:09 remaining in the first half.

Five minutes later, with the game tied at 22-22, LaQuita Garner scored six points to power a 14-3 Broncs run that made it 36-25 with 1:53 remaining.

Garner led the Broncs with 14 points. Donna Jackson also scored 14 points to go with eight rebounds. Torre finished with 13 points, seven assists and three steals. Erin Lewis had a game-high eight assists.

The Broncs held the Islanders without a point for the first 4:19 of the second half as they extended the lead to 44-29.

The Islanders were led by Myeisha Myles, who scored 13 points with seven rebounds.

The Broncs return to action for the second of three-straight home games on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. when they host Stephen F. Austin at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
