Women's Basketball Falls at TCU

FORT WORTH – In their first game in two weeks, the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's basketball team fell to the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs 73-37 on Saturday at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
 
The Horned Frogs (6-4) jumped out to a 7-0 lead before the Broncs (5-7) got on the board for the first time when Johnondra Patterson hit a fast break layup with 15:50 remaining in the first half.
 
The Broncs got to within 15-11 after back-to-back three-pointers by Franchesca Simon and Ce'Monay Newell with 8:50 left, but a Latricia Lovings layup 18 seconds later sparked a 16-3 run over the next six minutes that made it 31-14.
 
The Broncs held the Horned Frogs to 37.8 percent (14-for-37) shooting in the first half, but half of their field goals were from behind the arc, and the Broncs were held to 25 percent (7-for-28) shooting, allowing the Horned Frogs to build a 37-19 lead. In the second half, the Horned Frogs shot fewer threes (1-for-4), but hit 50 percent of their total shots (13-for-26) while holding the Broncs to 18.2 percent shooting (6-for-33).
 
Cassandra Moody led the Broncs with six points, a career-high 15 rebounds (six offensive) and a career-high four blocks. Jasmine Gordon and Newell also had six points each.
 
Zahna Medley led four Horned Frogs in double-figures with 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting, including 5-of-7 from behind the arc. Lovings recorded a double-double with 11 points, 15 rebounds (seven offensive), four steals and three blocks. Natalie Ventress and Delisa Gross scored 10 points each.
 
The Broncs return to action on Friday at 7:00 p.m. when they visit Rice.
