Men's Tennis Wins Second-Straight

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's tennis team beat the Bethany College Swedes, the #16 nationally ranked team in the NAIA, 5-2 on Friday at the Prairie View Tennis Complex.
 
The Broncs (2-1) are now 3-0 all-time against the Swedes (1-1).
 
The top three Broncs dispatched their opponents in straight sets as Beau Bernstein, playing in the #1 spot, beat Marcelo Alecio, who is ranked #45 in the nation in singles in the NAIA, 63-62, Ricardo Hopker, playing in the #2 spot, beat Alex Sandri 6-2, 6-2 and Chetan Panditi, playing in the #3 spot, beat James Bragg 6-3, 6-3.
 
In the #1 doubles, the duo of Panditi and Bernstein defeated Alecio and Kane Olsen, the #10 nationally ranked team in NAIA, 8-2, while the team of Victor Alves and Ricardo Hopker defeated Shane Higgins and Mivhale Van Bogaert 8-6.
 
The Broncs complete this three-game road swing on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. when they St. Mary's University.
 
The University of Texas-Pan American Department of Intercollegiate Athletics competes at the NCAA Division I classification. UTPA, formerly known as Pan American College and Pan American University, is a part of the University of Texas System of Schools. The Broncs compete in 14 varsity sports; men's and women's basketball, golf, tennis, track and field, and cross country, along with women's volleyball and men's baseball. In 1963, then known as Pan American College, the Broncs men's basketball program won the NAIA National Championship with a 73-62 victory over Western Carolina. In 2008 UTPA joined the new all-sports division of the Great West Conference.
