Women's Tennis Home Opener Friday

EDINBURG, Texas – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's tennis team (1-5) plays their first home match of the season when they welcome the Texas A&M University-Kingsville Javelinas (0-6) to the Orville Cox Tennis Center on Friday at 2:00 p.m.

The Broncs are on a five-match home winning streak dating back to April 18, 2009.
 
Over the last seven seasons, the Broncs are 23-5 (.821) at home.
 
The Series
 
The Broncs are 5-0 all-time against the Javelinas in a series that dates back to 1988. The Broncs and Javelinas haven't met since 1991, when the Broncs won two matches against the Javelinas, 9-0 and 6-1.

Last Time Out
 
The Broncs are coming off of a 7-0 road loss to the Northwestern State University Lady Demons on Sunday.
 
The Lady Demons won all six singles matches in straight sets. The Broncs' most competitive match came in the #2 position of singles, where Malin Andersen fell to Tatiana Larina 6-4, 6-1. Wanda Beguelin also scored points in both sets, falling 6-1, 6-2 to Andrea Nedorostova in the #4 position.
 
In doubles, the team of Andersen and Suncica Strkic lost in the #1 spot to Olga Bazhanova and Polina Konop 8-3 while the team of Dana Nazarova and Beguelin lost 8-3 to Larina and Nedorostova in the #2 spot.
 
Scouting the Javelinas
 
The Javelinas are 0-5 in NCAA Division II and 0-1 in NCAA Division I, falling to Prairie View A&M 9-0 on February 3. The Javelinas have been shutout four times, including a 9-0 loss to #6 Abilene Christian and an 8-0 loss to #19 Midwestern State.
 
The Javelinas opened the season with five matches in three days in Abilene from February 3 through 5 before facing Midwestern State at home on February 18.
 
The Javelinas have only earned two points in their matches this season, one of which came when Danielle Moore took a singles match in the #1 spot, 6-1, 7-5 over Dana Lamieux of McMurry on February 3. The other point came when Moore and Lindle Pennington teamed up to win a doubles match 8-5 in the #1 position against UT-Permian Basin.
 
Next Up
 
The Broncs take part in the Islander Classic starting Friday, March 16 in a tournament that includes the University of South Alabama, Sam Houston State University and host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
