PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's tennis team finished up a stretch of seven road matches in seven days with a 6-1 victory over Prairie View A&M on Wednesday at the Prairie View Tennis Courts.
The Broncs (7-5) are now 10-0 all-time against the Panthers (4-8)
The Broncs swept through doubles, winning all three matches 8-2 behind the No. 1 duo of
Beau Bernstein and
Chetan Panditi, the No. 2 duo of
Sebastien Job and
Ricardo Hopker and the No. 3 duo of
Rolf Niederstrasser and
Victor Alves.
In singles, Bernstein, Job and Alves all recorded double bagels with 6-0, 6-0 wins in the No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 spots respectively. Panditi won in the No. 3 position 6-4, 5-7, 10-1 and Niederstrasser won 7-5, 6-0 in the No. 4 position.
The Broncs play their first of five-straight home matches leading up to the Southland Conference Tournament when they play the University of Maryland Baltimore County on March 23 at 1:00 p.m. at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
The University of Texas-Pan American Department of Intercollegiate Athletics competes at the NCAA Division I classification. UTPA, formerly known as Pan American College and Pan American University, is a part of the University of Texas System of Schools. The Broncs compete in 14 varsity sports; men's and women's basketball, golf, tennis, track and field, and cross country, along with women's volleyball and men's baseball. In 1963, then known as Pan American College, the Broncs men's basketball program won the NAIA National Championship with a 73-62 victory over Western Carolina. In 2008 UTPA joined the new all-sports division of the Great West Conference.
