NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's tennis team (4-4) will play their third match in seven days when they face off against the Jackson State University Tigers Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
The Series
This is the first match ever with the Jackson State University Tigers.
Last Time Out
The Broncs came close to earning a point in the #2 position as
Ricardo Hopker took Carlin Murray to three sets but fell 6-3, 4-6, (0-1).
The Ragin Cajun's (9-5) took the rest of the singles matches in straight sets.
Beau Bernstein fell to Yanick Mandl, 5-7, 3-6 in the #1 position.
Chetan Panditi lost to Damian Farinola, 2-6, 3-6 in the #3 position.
Rolf Neiderstrasser fell to Ted Nilsson 1-6, 0-6 in the #4 position. Sebastian Job lost to Jarred Wynan, 0-6, 2-6 in the #5 position.
Victor Alves battle with Carl Alberton but fell 4-6, 2-6 in the #6 singles position.
Scouting the Tigers
The Tigers are coming off of a 6-0 victory over Mississippi Valley State. Naveneetha Baskaran defeated Mississippi Valley's Chartese Jones, 6-0, 6-0. Carlos Martinez took care of Reginald Holmes Jr., 6-0, 6-0.
Jose Luque won his match over Issac Morris, 6-0, 6-0. Marko Milosavlsevic beat Samuel Harris in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3.
The Tigers took care of business in doubles action as Baskaran and Luque defeated Mississippi Valley State's Chartese Jones and Reginald Holmes Jr, 8-1. In the #2 doubles spot, Martinez and Milosavlsevic defeated Issac Morris and Samuel Harris, 8-0.
Local Flavor
The Broncs have a Rio Grande Valley native on the squad. Freshman
Shane Kyral is from Harlingen and was part of a Harlingen South High School team that was ranked #6 in the state, finishing as the regional runner up in the 5A school division.
