EDINBURG, Texas – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs scored nine runs over the final two innings to come from behind to complete the four-game sweep of the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux with a 14-8 victory on Sunday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
The Broncs (20-7, 8-0 GWC) led 5-3 entering the sixth inning, but Fighting Sioux (2-24, 0-8 GWC) starting pitcher
Jeff Campbell (1-5), who was also hitting third, launched a three-run home run to put them ahead. The Fighting Sioux added two more in the eighth to take an 8-5 lead.
With one out in the seventh, Campbell issued a four-pitch walk to
Chris Torres. Mission-native
Iradier Hernandez followed with a pinch-hit double and then
Riley Goulding drew a four-pitch walk to load the bases.
Brandon Roush pinch-hit and hit an RBI-single.
Derek Hagy followed with a two-run single to tie the game.
Roger Bernal singled to re-load the bases and knock out Campbell.
Brett DeGagne came in and allowed and RBI-single to Mission-native
Angel Ibanez before throwing a wild pitch to score another run as the Broncs went up 10-8.
Fighting Sioux reliever
Brock Johnson retired the final two batters of the seventh and the first two of the eighth, but a Roush double sparked a four-run rally as Hagy and Bernal hit back-to-back RBI-singles and Ibanez hit an RBI-double to knock out Johnson.
Trent Egan came in next and the first pitch he threw went to the backstop, allowing Ibanez to move to third, from where he scored on another wild pitch to cap the scoring.
Bernal went 4-for-6 with two RBI and two runs scored to extend his hitting streak to 18 games and raise his batting average to .449 (51-for-118).
Ibanez went 2-for-6 to extend his hitting streak to 16 games.
Hagy went 3-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored to finish 11-for-17 (.647) with eight RBI and seven runs scored in the series
Zach Zouzalik (6-1) got the win with 1.1 scoreless innings of relief.
The Broncs scored first for the first time in this series. With runners at second and third and one out in the first, Campbell threw a wild pitch to score a run.
Vincent Mejia followed with an RBI-double and
Will Klausing hit an RBI-single to make it 3-0.
The Fighting Sioux answered back against
Dylan Badura in the top of the second on a two-out two-run single by
Kris Kwak that made it 3-2.
In the bottom of the inning, Goulding hit a leadoff triple and
Shane Klemcke followed with an infield-single. After an error allowed Klemcke to move to the second, Bernal hit an RBI-single to make it 5-2.
The Fighting Sioux got one back in the top of the fourth on a two-out RBI-single by Campbell that made it 5-3.
The Broncs finish up this 10-game home stand when they host the University of Texas at Brownsville on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

The Broncs compete in 14 varsity sports; men's and women's basketball, golf, tennis, track and field, and cross country, along with women's volleyball and men's baseball. In 1963, then known as Pan American College, the Broncs men's basketball program won the NAIA National Championship with a 73-62 victory over Western Carolina. In 2008 UTPA joined the new all-sports division of the Great West Conference.
