No. 3 Women's Tennis Closes Season Sunday at 9:00 a.m.

HARLINGEN, Texas – The third-seeded University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's tennis team (3-13) closes the season against the Chicago State University Cougars (6-17) in the third place match of the Great West Conference Championship on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. at the HEB Tennis Center.
 
Senior Sendoff
 
This marks the final match in the careers of Malin Andersen and Suncica Strkic.
 
Andersen joined the Broncs in 2009 and has a career record of 15-29 in singles and 14-29 in doubles. This season may have been her best as Andersen established herself as the Broncs' No. 1 player, going 3-4 in singles and 5-9 in doubles at that spot.

Strkic joined the Broncs in 2011 and has a record of 6-21 in singles and 6-22 in doubles after going 15-8 in two years with Northwestern State. Strkic was a part of the 2010 Northwestern State Southland Conference Championship team.

Broncs in the Great West Conference Tournament
 
The Broncs won the Great West Conference Championship as the fourth seed in 2010 and finished in fourth place as the second seed in 2011. They are trying to finish in third as the third seed this year.
 
The Series
 
The Broncs are 1-1 all-time against the Cougars. These teams last met in 2010, in the Great West Conference Championship match. The Broncs won 4-2. They also met in 2009 at the Orville Cox Tennis Center, when the Broncs were hosting the National Independent Tournament. The Cougars won that match 4-2.
 
Last Time Out
 
The Broncs fell to second-seeded Seattle University 4-0 in the semifinals on Saturday.
 
The Redhawks took two out of three doubles matches to go up 1-0 and then won three singles matches in straight sets to clinch the win. The Broncs won the first set on three different courts, but none of those matches were completed.
 
Scouting the Cougars
 
The Cougars went 1-1 during the first day of the Great West Conference Championship.
 
They upended fourth-seeded North Dakota in the quarterfinals, 4-1. The Cougars swept through doubles, winning at No. 1 and No. 2 while leading at No. 3 when the point was decided. In singles, the Cougars won matches 2, 3 and 4 in straight sets while leading on court one when the match was decided.
 
The Cougars fell to top-seeded NJIT in the semifinals, 4-0. The Cougars played well in double as the No. 1 duo of Rosalinda and Rosalia Tejoprayitno won for the second time in the day, 8-3. The No. 2 duo of Ruta Grinvalde and Karyn Emeralda played a competitive match before falling 8-6. In singles, NJIT took courts four through six in straight sets to clinch the match. The Cougars only led at No. 2 (Rosalinda Tejoprayitno) at that time.
