Women’s Tennis Collects Two CSC Academic All-District Honors

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros Department of Intercollegiate Athletics learned on Tuesday that juniors Rhea Makesar and Hitakamya Narwal of the women's tennis program have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team.

Academic All-District selections are part of the Academic All-America program, which is the longest running and premier award for athletic and academic success across many levels of college sports. To be eligible, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore athletically and academically with a 3.50 cumulative GPA or better. Requirements to earn Academic All-District for women's tennis also include competing in at least 75% of your matches.

Makesar posted a 4-1 record at the No. 5 singles spot and a 6-3 record overall during SLC play this season. Makesar won her final four matches at the number five spot, picking up wins against UIW, Lamar, New Orleans, and Nicholls. Makesar also picked up a win at court four against SFA and ended the season with a win at court three at regular-season champion McNeese. In non-conference play, Makesar earned singles wins against Abilene Christian and Texas State.

Narwal played at the middle courts for the Vaqueros. Starting off the year on court two, Narwal earned wins against New Mexico and Northwestern State. Playing at court three, she picked up a win over Texas State. At the No. 4 singles spot, Narwal earned wins over New Orleans and Nicholls. In doubles, Narwal mostly played with sophomore Mariia Bakhtina, where they posted a 4-1 record at No. 3 doubles in conference play. The duo played a big role in UTRGV's 4-3 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, earning a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles. The pair also picked up wins against Northwestern State, SFA, and UIW. In each of their four victories at No. 3 doubles, UTRGV took the doubles point against their opponents.
