Sa Pitches Complete Game in Loss

CHICAGO, IllinoisJonathan Sa pitched his first career complete game, but the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team fell to the Chicago State University Cougars 3-0 in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday at Brooks Field.
 
Sa (1-2) pitched a career-high eight innings and recorded a career-high eight strikeouts while allowing three runs on eight hits and three walks.
 
The Cougars (7-29, 5-10 GWC) got on the board right away. After loading the bases with nobody out in the first, Jeremy Ratajczyk hit an RBI-single and, one out later, William Hill hit into an RBI-fielder's choice to make it 2-0.
 
In the fifth, Ryan Malhotra hit a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.
 
That made a winner of Dylan Sterrett (3-4), who pitched 7.2 innings, striking out three while scattering four hits and two walks. Andrew Watson retired the final four batters for his second save.
 
The Broncs (22-13, 9-6 GWC) were led by Roger Bernal, who had two of their four hits and is now 6-for-12 in the series.
 
The University of Texas-Pan American Department of Intercollegiate Athletics competes at the NCAA Division I classification. UTPA, formerly known as Pan American College and Pan American University, is a part of the University of Texas System of Schools. The Broncs compete in 14 varsity sports; men's and women's basketball, golf, tennis, track and field, and cross country, along with women's volleyball and men's baseball. In 1963, then known as Pan American College, the Broncs men's basketball program won the NAIA National Championship with a 73-62 victory over Western Carolina. In 2008 UTPA joined the new all-sports division of the Great West Conference.
